Streams and Pools of Bodmin Moor
Boatyard Cafe & Bakery
60b Haven Road, Quayside, Exeter, Devon EX2 8DP
open daily 9 am - 2 pm

Image of resist-dyed painting Source of Penpont Water by Robin Paris, showing water tumbling through a stream with verdant streamweed and grassy banks.Twenty years ago I experimented with orienting Bodmin Moor by its valleys, instead of through its more familiar hills and tors. The constant looking down, not up, brought a heightened awareness of its streams, leading to a period of observation and study into their individual nuances and character. To create Streams and Pools of Bodmin Moor I developed a range of marks, textures and patterns with scrap, found and home-made tools, using them to apply hot wax to cloth prior to dyeing it.

Overlooking the tranquil and historic Exeter ship canal, the Boatyard Cafe & Bakery can be found next to Exeter Cookery School. The cafe serves coffee, tea, tempting cakes and pastries, and truly lovely lunches using seasonal ingredients. It is home too to Emma's Bread, delicious sourdough and other traditionally made breads. The friendly and inspiring cafe has various evening foodie and arts events on - contact them for details.
